Brixham Youth RFC

We have seen some changes on the committee since the end of the season and we welcome Derrick Piper as Chairman and Bryan Pitman as Vice Chairman. Rachel Smith will be Membership Secretary and Lindzi Mckee will take on the roll as Welfare Officer to the Youth. All other officers remain as per last season.

Congratulations to all the teams that represented Brixham last year and especially those teams that brought some silverware back to Astley Park. Last season was a great success and we need to build on this and ensure that ALL players from under 7s to 16s are given the opportunity to play rugby in a safe and friendly environment. The RFU are clamping down on the number of games youth teams can play during the season and as a club granted the Youth Seal of Approval we will be abiding by this. This will see an increase in more Training sessions on a Sunday morning and slightly less matches than previous seasons. The positives are that we can use this training time for players to achieve the RFU Proficiency Awards and to improve on rugby skills.

We will soon start our season with our Rugby Camp ( changed from Rugby Week) This will be a three day camp from Friday 29th July to Sunday 31st . By changing the days we hope that we will attract more coaches and helpers and to provide quality coaching and training from our guest coaches. We are of course looking for sponsors so if you would like to help then please contact Bryan Pitman.

We will be running 10 sides this year and we welcome some new faces to the ranks of the youth , Naomi Chart and Paul Lidster will be running the under 7s this season and also Mark Jackson who will be running the under 15s with Tom Clarke.

It is out intention to continue our investment into our coaches and we have arranged a number of development courses throughout the season for them as well as the RFU level 1 and 2 courses. As part of our Development school we also hope to involve more of the senior coaching staff and players to help bring on some of the youth players in positional play

Rugby Cubs ( 3 to 5 year olds) will start again in September and we would ask if any one has 3 hours to give on alternate Saturday Mornings then they speak to James Onslow. This has been a great success this year and has provided us with a number of players for the under 7s team for this season. Again if any one would like to help any of the other teams on a weekly basis then please speak to James Onlsow.

During the close season we have had to invest in some new training equipment as some tackle bags, shields, training aids balls etc have badly worn and are unsafe to use. We should shortly be taking delivery of this equipment and this will be ready for when training starts again .,

Our Social Committee are working hard to come up with events during the year to help raise funds for both the youth and senior club. Currently many of the events are supported by the same people each time and we would ask ALL parents and members of the club to come along and support our events. Coming soon…..pig racing, quiz night, karaoke, FAMILY TOUCH RUGBY EVENT, bingo to name a few!!! Watch the notice boards and web site for further details.

So its not long before our summer break is over and we get back to the club and the game we all are passionate about and love to be involved in …….Brixham Rugby !
